Starting in June 2018 new gem properties began to be introduced on a (semi?)regular basis. I've retooled this thread to announce/collect these new gem properties. The catalog thread OP is no longer being updated and the gem haul thread happens only at the end of the month.

August 2018 - Square Rose Cut
This month, I got word of what we're looking for early. It's called the Square Rose Cut. We'll be seeing this cut every August (at least, that's the plan).

I have no idea what this one looks like. And no spiffy screenshots to show off. So the hunt is on. Bring me a screenshot of a gem profile for a Square Rose Cut gem. Make sure to get a nice tight-in shot of the gem itself so we can all "ooo" and "aaaah" at it together. Let's call it a 100 shmucker bounty. Go go go go go!

And here it is! Courtesy of Jaxad0127.

Oooooo.
Aaaaah.

So get to mining... there's new gems in them thar hills! (and Good luck!)

A new month, a new gem type. This month we have another new shape, the Julian Cut. For all your rectangular gem needs! :P

Image

Official word is that the Julian Cut is planned to return each July. And Buzz Cut is not planned to return. However, plans change... so stay tuned.

I'll be collecting data at the end of the month regarding the popping distribution of this new property... but my expectation (based on past experience) is that this will be 50:50 with Master Cut.

Ladies and gentlemen.
I give you ::pauses for suspense:: the buzz-cut gem.

Lay eyes upon the wonderment!
Image

I popped this just a minute ago. Didn't really register the new shape till someone else pointed it out. But this is totally a new gem shape. It doesn't affect gem point-values... it's still a 34-pointer like any other large, brilliant gem. But these are super rare anyway because they will only be available this one month. That's right... June only.

Gem Color Details

Moved from Market Spreadsheet Thread

Valareos has done a bang-up job, with the help of others of course, of starting a list of color values for gems. As he and others were able to determine that each gem has two color values... the gem color and the outline color. And they were able to tease out a way to easily identify what those color values are.

But we need more data (we always need more data). So this is a call to arms. Take a look at the table below (courtesy of Valareos). If you have a gem with a color not on this list follow the guide below that matches your browser. You can reach your gem collection by clicking the link (must be logged in).

Thanks for posting this! I almost never log out, so I would have never seen this (which begs the point, wouldn't this kind of thing be better as a front page post?)

As yet unknown. I'll know more when we do the gem haul thread at the end of the month. Of course, by then it won't matter. It being a 1-month only gem kinda makes that difficult.

I’ve mined two gems this month, but both are the standard shape (Master Cut). I’ve been averaging about 8 gems per month, so I hope to get a couple Buzz Cut gems before June ends (hoping for at least a 25% chance.)

I got really lucky (I think). Either way be sure to chime in for this months gem haul thread. Eight gems may not seem like much to some, but it adds up when a dozen other people share their eight gems too.

And good luck on getting a Buzz Cut.

I also got lucky and got a Buzzcut (Goddarn it, wish I had an appropriate smiley), also didn't notice it for a while. I'ts posted in the marketplace and is probably the first (and hopefully only) buzzcut gem with titanic glow!

PS it was 104 points for team marbit on it's own

Four gems mined this month (all today) and got two "buzz cut" stones.

Since I never logged out, I had to come delve into the forums to figure out what the hey was going on....

I think somebody has carnied my Luckamancy, just found another Buzz cut, this one's Gigantic (not THE biggest, but is MY big biggeest) and then a small, making it 3-0 for the Buzz cuts

Yeah, so far they appear to be averaging about 1/1 for me. But 3/0 is not far enough from 1/1 to be truly odd. Still good though. Enjoy it. :-D

Yeah, I got a buzzcut! A small flat 1-pointer, but hey, buzzcut! Not shone shown here because posting it near that thing would be humiliating.

Interesting distribution of gem sizes and shapes. Throwing out the one gem from June 2nd before the Buzzcut shape existed (AFAICT):
14 gems mined since 06 June (of 15 total as noted):
8 Buzzcut and 6 conventional shape

Of the 6 conventional: 4 small, 1 large, 1 enormous
Of the 8 Buzzcut: 1 small, 6 average, 1 large

Obviously that's still a small sample size, but it sure looks at first glance as though "If Buzzcut, then increased probability of larger stone" (which would make sense IMHO since the different shape is doggone hard to see on a small gem...)

    Spoiler: show

I'm about to put up the gem haul thread for this month, so we'll find out.

I have yet to spin anything this month. Once I do in a few days, that might give a much better insight into the mechanics of this crazy gem!

Lol yup... was just about to post this. Saw it on the market. Gotta update my market spreadsheet for it to stop emailing me with errors.
