I can access the store and put items in my cart, but the link to the cart itself is missing. This means I cannot actually complete an order. If I log in using my android phone I do get the link and the items i added.

Managed to circumvent the issue of 'item total is invalid' following some google-fu. Basically the root of the problem seems to be that the shipping costs are partially calculated using a percentage of item value. The resulting totals are not automatically rounded, so the calculator might give a shipping cost with 3 of more decimals (e.g. $3.3755 in stead of $3.38) leading to an unacceptable total price, hence the error message.

In my case deleting the red and blue Erfworld card decks (the only store items not priced at whole dollars, but at 21,95) from my order did the trick as that one probably screwed up the shipping calculation once a percentage of that 95 cents was calculated.

If this was indeed the problem simply setting the price to 22 dollars would be a quick fix to prevent similar problems in the future (and I'll order them at a later date).
