Turns out, he was phrasing it wrong the whole time. So tragicomic: you can't cast the spell unless you unroll the scroll. Such a twist!

Who or what is lying to him? Where is the misinformation coming from?

Something is changing the display, but there's a lag. He can see the truth for a fraction of a second. That implies to me that the bracer is functioning properly, but something is interfering and changing the result -- or his perception of the result -- so quickly that if he wasn't paying attention he could easily miss it.

Foolamancy? Fate? Carnymancy? A known character? The Titans?

Does anyone know the significance of 98.0104773 percent?

I've had a quick search, and nothing jumped out at me.

I thought it might be a callback to Captain Archer's last words, but they were "97%"

Absolutely amazing update, I'm on the edge of my seat now!

I have had many moments reading this comic where at the end of an update I craved the next page. This one is physically painful. You magnificent bastard.

So two different GMs are trying to get Parson to do two different things. Fate vs Charlie going on right now? Looks like Fate smacked parson over the head for trying to leave.

Makes the twoll being manipulated by fate thing look more plausible.

I don't think that's it. I think the bracer is saying "You're technically capable of casting this scroll, and you can try, but Fate won't let you successfully cast it."

And when he tried, Fate smacked him on the head with a 2x4. Literally.

Of course, if Fate won't let him cast, Fate will presumably also keep him alive, so we know that Sizemore will get there in time to save his ass.

So, now that fate's knocked Parson out, it's going to be a little hard for him to go through the portal. Do you think Antium will kick him through, or that Marie will tell Sizemore what he needs to do?

So he can cast, but Fate was going to make it physically impossible to cast that particular spell? Is what I'm getting.

This is confirmation that he's a Caster, right?

    Also, just noticed:

    Quote:
but he was contractually obligated to carry out Charlie’s calculation unless it would hurt his side, and he couldn’t make a good enough case to refuse it.

'So he doesn't have to do what Charlie says if it endangers his side, but he was happy to tell him exactly how many Archons he'd need to take GK's Garrison?

Well he still might not be a caster. It could by some kind of Carnamancy trick that lets him cast. Temporary casting ability on the scroll....

Wanda said it end of book one. "You didn't wish for Erfworld Parson Gotti, it wished for you." It is Erfworld itself that is lying to Parson so he doesn't try to cast the spell and end up leaving. Erfworld wants Parson. Possibly for him to "win" the game.

Is it odd that I found myself wondering more who the tapestry depicts?

Also, it could indeed be quite interesting if Stanley and Sizemore save Parson. From a pure gamer's point of view, I'd say his first order of business after "Get Jack to Wanda" :( Would be to ask Sizemore to purchase a selection of really cheap and harmless scrolls for him to practice with!

I guess fate really wants Parson around, knocking him out and all. The only question is how divided is the MK? There is now way that this spell got made without there being another group here. Charlie cannot have this much pull in the MK to get this magnitude of a spell on his hands this easily. I got a feeling that Charlie has overplayed his hand here and soon the MK will be in total civil war because of this. I see casters divided into several camps all mad at one of the two groups and issues with other disciplines that they oppose (think live vs. Wanda). Book 3 is shaping up to be more about the casters and the issues in the MK and book 4 all about Charlie.

I thought the number was a reference to the Emerald City Comicon, but that is 98101... close, but not quite. Also, I have to lol a bit at the " getting railroaded by two different GMs here." Guess which one won? Fate won over Charlie. Nice try though, Charlie.

Except he also showed a non-negative chance to cast as a dirtamancer, in an attempt to put out the fire. Since the odds were so low, that implies he's probably not a dirtamancer, but definitely a caster of some sort.
