can someone help me?

Tried to see the page source (and in so doing, seeing the link to the image you think you're using).

What I got was a link to an "unloaded image.gif" or something like that. My guess is that you didn't supply the correct URL when setting your avatar.

    Example (based on photobucket):

For each image I have, photobucket supplies:

    Code:
    Email:       http://s580.photobucket.com/albums/ss243/BLANDCorporatio/?action=view&current=SomeImage.png
    Direct link: http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss243/BLANDCorporatio/SomeImage.png
    HTML code:   <a href="http://s580.photobucket.com/albums/ss243/BLANDCorporatio/?action=view&amp;current=SomeImage.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss243/BLANDCorporatio/SomeImage.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
    IMG code:    [IMG]http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss243/BLANDCorporatio/SomeImage.png[/IMG]

of which I use Direct Link (so for example, NOT HTML or IMG code!).

Another thing that may misfire is privacy settings. I dunno, not having used imageshack, but maybe the default setting, when you upload an image, is to have controlled access on it (so only "friends" or somesuch may see it). IF there is some access control on imageshack, make sure you set your av image to public.

Aw come on now, I'm not interested in what Vinnie's text was. I want to know what the problem was, that prevented your av from loading.

Been planning something like this since the Sylvia ordering GK troops whilst under a Dwagon update, but the pose wasn't right.

    Yeah, I know.

I think your av is newer than the Sylvia-pinned-down update (which was when I got the idea, pinky swear!), but fact is you made that av first.

Still, this forum is big enough for both propaganda posters, maybe ;)

Nope, my av is pretty old, it is Aug 28, 2010 (proof- http://www.erfworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1514#p37083).

Indeed, especially while they recruit to the same side. (Although Stanley doubts.)

Are animated avatars allowed on this forum? The rules don't forbid it, I've seen one such (though, a tiny one), but on the other hand they may be distracting and annoying, hence frowned upon.

Why I ask- the most recent update has me planning a "Dramatic Sylvia" avatar. Animating something is not the easiest avatar to make, but if I were to try and pull off such a project, would it fly as forum av?

    If not, I guess there's always fan-arts :)

I have a request, it seems odd but is there any way anyone can clean this up and resize it for me, I don't do much image manipulation and paint screws up the readability for me at least...

Urgh. No offense but it looks even messier than what I can do.

Therefore, I'll try to prettify and resize it BUT. Where are the glasses from? I'd rather start from scratch, than work on this image.

You could probably get away with an ani avatar, provided that the animation is very slow. And very few frames. Say 1 frame per 30 seconds or something.

They're Kamina glasses from Gurran Lagaan, I took the original panel and put them on his face because it looked like a good pose for the statement.

Also it fits with the general theme of parson exploiting the rules in fairly strange ways.

It is quite a bit of text to fit around them huge glasses. Here's a few takes:

    (opaque glasses)
    Image

    (initial transparency kept)
    Image

Text fit is a bit awkward. If I squeeze it together a bit (so, not two balloons), it will cover the glasses, but I might make it bigger. And there'll be more space between balloon edges and the text, which looks nicer.

Nonetheless, the big lesson here is: use Gorilla Milkshake, or some other designed-for-comics font. It seriously helps readability at small sizes. And for the love of God use either Center align or Justify. You're not sending a manuscript to a publisher (they are keen on left aligned) nor are you doing fancy tricks with right alignments. You just want some text to more or less symmetrically fit a balloon.

I'm going to say animated avatars, if you can make them fit within the avatar size limit, are perfectly fine.
