I just came across the same issue. The problem is most likely related to a certain type of anti-spam behaviour that mailservers may have implemented.

In my postfix setup I have enabled the option
Code:
smtpd_sender_restrictions =
   check_sender_access hash:/etc/postfix/sender_access,
   reject_unknown_sender_domain

This means that any mailserver that tries to deliver a mail to my system needs to have a valid domain name in the "Mail from:" header.

Sure enough, the mailserver that serves the authentication mails gives as an argument an invalid domain name, and so it's mails get rejected outright.
Code:
Nov 11 13:51:15 sine postfix/smtpd[16302]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from unknown[ipaddresshere]: 450 4.1.8 <nobody@dwagon.erfworld.com>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found; from=<nobody@dwagon.erfworld.com> to=<censored@censored.x> proto=ESMTP helo=<dwagon.erfworld.com>

Seen as how many online mailhosts use similar settings (it is one of the simplest ways to deal with bulk spam), good fixes include:

  • Alter the from: header to point to a legitimate hostname (http://www.erfworld.com would work) that can be resolved normally,
  • register the dwagon.erfworld.com subdomain and point it to either the website or the mailserver (preferably the mailserver).

HTH.

Thank You to Janny for manually activating my account. Comcast (comcast.net) was rejecting my confirmation email.

In the interest of helping other new members who experience this problem, maybe we should list the known domains that currently reject emails from erfworld.com. So far in this thread:

    - Hotmail
    - Yahoo (goes to Spam folder)
    - Comcast (does not go to Spam folder, just disappears)

After some tweaking it looks like Hotmail and other previously uncontactable emails systems may be working with our server now. Anyone who has a hotmail address or one that previously didn't work, can you please see if you can receive emails from the board (initiate a password reset).

    Thanks,
    Harknell

Comcast.net user checking in. I requested a password reset from the login screen on Saturday (March 27) at about 3pm EDT, but I haven't received a reset email. On a hunch, I tried logging in tonight with my old password, and it still works. The reset request looked okay at the time - there were no obvious errors.

Does Comcast have an automatic spam filter area you can check? We may have multiple problems going on. Some we can't easily avoid, but we're hoping to avoid the incorrect setup related issues. Spam filtering is a separate issue we may have to take up with individual email system owners.

There is a spam filter, but I checked it and there was no email there that looked like it came from this forum. (I assume that either the 'from' address or the subject would have the word "Erfworld" or "password" in it.) Items in the spam inbox expire after 3 days, but this was clearly within that period.

This appears to be the same problem as I had when I registered originally - the forum site says the request went through, but there's no sign of it at all in my inbox, either as spam or as ham.

I'm going to try the password reset again now, after disabling the spam filter entirely.

It's been more than a day now with the spam filter disabled, and I haven't received a password reset email (unless you happen to send those from a domain named after a minor celebrity I don't care about with the subject "Re: Hi mate!" ). Also, my old password obviously still works.

I assume that if the email was going to arrive at all, it would have happened by now.

Ok, next fix is in place. I believe the Comcast situation was in regard to a incorrect Reverse DNS entry. Please try it again this weekend and let me know if you get something.
