    Ooooh, friend zoned!

Jack of all trades, except for love!

    His hopes have been sniped!

    ... Okay I'm done here. >x>

Too bad Jillian goes for jocks, not Jacks.

Any uber-fans out there prepared to decode the anagram?

“Yes, but the brute interrogation route deserved some exploration, I thought. Seems like something you might discover a latent talent for. If you’ll pardon the anagram.”

The online anagram machines I can find have low character limits.

God I love Jack. Total bad-ass. He does what you're SUPPOSED to do when "friend-zoned" (I hate that term): accept it.

I think Jack knows something about Jillian's fate. He is trying to help her here but she shoots him down by misunderstanding what he was saying. Yes I get he has feelings for her but I see more is going on here, he is trying to get her to take the easy path when all she ever takes is the hard path. Jillian has major issues, from her father to her love life she is a product of many things most are her own fault.

Don't over-think it - "latent" is an anagram of "talent".

Nice art on this one. Jack looks so young, and hale, but still his somewhat enigmatic and mysterious self. Nice to get a glimpse into the Jack-that-was, before everything that happened made him even more... cautious... sobered... "old"?

I don't know. For whatever reason, I imagine that Jack tends to speaks a bit more slowly, with more gravity, now than in the prologue, even when he's being jocular. He's been through a lot.

    Aw, man.

As sad as it is for Jack, I actually feel enheartened by this! Jack made a move. He tried. He didn't sit on his hands and pine away for Jillian from afar. Good on him.

o/~ run it up the flagpole and see who salutes, but no one ever does o/~

So the Court of Faq are all going to get on High Horses? Can't say I'm surprised.

Hmmm.. turns can end naturally, Faq is 13000 turns (~35 years) old.

And another reference to scripture... I wonder if there is an Erfworld bible and what it would read like to Parson. perhaps a game training manual/guide?

And poor Jack, playing the fool in yet another way. Sad clown :(

Indeed they are, indeed they are.

And they'll probably be really high, swaying back and forth, like the high elves.

And yet, when we get a glimpse of his feelings later, it's pretty obvious that he's not over her.

Agreed, he's still in love, years later. But he has the balls to be totally smitten with her, and to accept that she doesn't feel the same way about him with total grace.

I've been grooving on this idea of "enthusiastic consent," or as http://markmanson.net/fuck-yes puts it "'Fuck Yes' or No." Jillian doesn't love Jack the way he loves her, but (unlike most StupidWorld transactions) his caring love for her is undiminished by that fact. A wiser fool than I.

"We try things. Sometimes, they even work." Seems to be as healthy an attitude towards romance as it is towards anything else.

    Poor fella.

Our lad needs to take some levels in Bad Boy or maybe one in Square Jaw, Stick-up-Posterior. Even Vinny Doombats got a hug.
