    Melee Round 2:
Remaining Savage Flyrannosaurs "GUST" Veshtu and Command Deer Stacks

Yungstar heard the Rakasa bellow with rage as the Flyrannosaurs gusted the main Veshtu stack. Their enemies would escape their rage for one more phase.

"Nevermind that! You can slaughter them again in a minute!" Yungstar directed all his remaining stacks against the Heavy Direwolves. The Flyrannosaurs had acid breath, which significantly decreased the enemy defences - but so did the Reigndeer, and there was one of those in each of the enemy stacks. The Carnage was brutal.

Wonderland inflicts 390 hits (Savage Stacks 1 & 2 eliminated)
    Savage inflicts 565 hits (Wolfstacks 1 & 2 eliminated)

Yungstar never knew what hit him. One moment he was the favoured son of Savage, smashing his mace into the head of a scarf-toting heavy direwolf, the next he was walking in green fields watching butterflies flit from flower to flower...

Anchor Tom had been many places and seen many things in his short life. Well, long life. He had memories from before the fall of the last Kingdoms, the invasion of the Great Empries. He had seen the rise of the Mogul, and the growth of Voyera. How many cities was it now? Five? Seven? Who could keep count.

But in all his long life he had never seen anything like this. The Savage Gusts had kept half the army out of the fighting for the last two phases, and now there was virtually nothing left of the Grand Army of Winterview. But at least there was less left of the Savage Knights. No more Acid Breath from those hideous flying lizards. Just Rakasa to slaughter, and they were pretty hideous as well.

Tom restrained the Veshtu stack from charging headlong into the largest Rakasa Stack, sending the Command Deer stack that way instead - they had better defence.

The Reigndeer spat their acid, and the Rakasa recoiled. This was going to be easy. Not cheap, but easy.

    Melee Phase Three:
Winterview inflicts 362 hits (Rakasa Stack 1 eliminated)
Savage inflicts 196 hits (Veshtu stack 1 eliminated)

    Melee Phase Four:
Winterview inflicts 169 hits (Rakasa Stack 3 eliminated)
    Savage inflicts 64 hits.

    Melee Phase Five:
Winterview inflicts 109 hits (Rakasa Stack 2 eliminated)
    Savage inflicts 12 hits.

Tom looked about him, checking to see what, if anything, remained to be killed.

There wasn't much moving in the hex.

The Wonderland Warlord, Sir Kristoff was standing nearby. Tom wandered over. "Report, Wonderland."

Kristoff shook his head. "Nothing to report, Voyera. They're dead. All dead."

Tom nodded. "Yes, the enemy are destroyed."

Kristoff laughed. "Not the enemy. Our army. All dead."

    All Savage forces eliminated.
Winterview takes 91% casualties. The remaining stack is at 27% of starting strength.

    Battle at another crossroads

The Mogul was riding high again. He hadn't been keen on battle so much before, but now, it really was exhilarating. The Grand Army was back there, crushing Savage's main force. This was mostly a coup de grace! Destroy the Savage army in the field, and force them to surrender - or at least agree to some generous terms.

    Winterview forces:
    WV1: 10 SwatCops
WV2: 2 Heavy SwatCops, 2 Reigndeer, 2 Heavy Nutcrackers, 6 Veshtu Warriors, Mogul, and Luscia
    WV3: 2 MegaWits

380 total hits, 618 total combat, 3.667 average defence

    Savage forces:
    S1: Captain Rasp E. Voice Warlord, 3 C-Type Vipers, 4 D-Type Stegasus
    S2: 1 G-Type Flyrannosaurus, 3 C-Type Vipers, 3 D-Type Stegasus

218 total hits, 441 total combat, 4.65 average defence

    No ranged combat.

Rasp E. Voice was as surprised as anyone to see the Voyerans this far East. This was a deserted road, a long way from anywhere. Fresh from dissatisfying battles against the Semaphorans, Rasp E. had been praying for action. But here? In the middle of nowhere? With no one watching? Very strange.

Time to put the new Flyrannosaur to work.

    Melee Phase 1:
    Flyrannosaur GUST S2.

    Winterview inflict 62 hits.
Savage inflicts 290 hits (S1 eliminated).

Rasp E. was disgusted that his stack of flying Knights had been forced to spend the phase chasing flying transports, and worse! Failing to croak them. The remaining Megawit was heavily wounded and slowly falling to the ground, but even with one hit remaining it was a viable stack and would need to be dealt with in the following phase.

The Flyrannosaur had done well - Gusting the Command Stack, and then spitting acid on the stack of SwatCop Knights, before moving in to butcher the defenceless chaps.

Time to do it again - except he had no gusts left, and those reigndeer looked pissed.

    Melee Round 2:
    WV2 attacks S2 - 109 hits (S2 eliminated)
    S2 returns 31 hits.

    WV3 attacks S1 - 0 hits.
S1 returns 82 hits (only 1 required to finish the stack)

    Melee Round 3:
    WV2 attacks S1 - 107 hits (S1 eliminated)
    S1 returns 39 hits.

Yeah, they were pissed alright. The Reigndeers helped the Heavy Swat Cops chew up the Flyrannosaur and friends, and then turned their acid breath on Rasp E's stack of Knights. The battle ended quite quickly.

Rasp E. Voice was just disappointed he couldn't have died in front of an audience...

    All Savage forces eliminated.
    63% of WinterView forces eliminated.

    Enough of this.

We speak to all the sides of Erflia, and we speak from our hearts. Do not believe the lies that come from the east. Savage accuses us of desiring domination, of desiring conquest. And yet, what do they have to prove their words? We were not the ones who dissolved our peace treaty. It was Savage. We were not the ones who built up an army at the border. It was Savage. And we were not the ones who declared war. It was Savage. Wonderland has never started a war. The attacks by Fae, and, long ago, by Underempire, were unprovoked. We suffered, but we overcame. And we struck only when there was no other option. And as it was then, thus it is now. Would aggression be easier? Perhaps, but it is not our way.

Savage saw us busy defending against the Fae. Foolishly, trustingly, we had told them about our issues in the north. We expected aid. We received a declaration of war. We implored them to rethink, they refused. They built up an army on our borders. We destroyed it. And now they paint us as the aggressors. Just as they tried to paint Semaphore the turn Savage declared war on them. The facts are simple, and they are grim. Savage are opportunists. They are cruel, and aggressive, and desire an ever larger empire. An empire that will stretch across all of Erflia, should Wonderland fall.

Do not let this happen. Stand by us, stand against the aggressors. Fight by our side and let them break their cursed fangs on our walls. We say what we have always said, Erflia can only survive through unity. Whether it be threats from within or threats from without, we must stand together. Let this be the Erflia that breaks the cycle. Help us make it so.

So if you believe Wonderland they had no build up of forces on their border. They did not have an army that in 1 turn could reach into Savage's land and attack. Obviously as everyone can see Wonderland is hiding the truth of the events that took place. Last turn they had a large force on the north western borders and this turn an even larger force that can strike on the other end of their empire. I am warning all parties to take care in any promises that they are making to you. If they are able to push us out in the east there is nothing that will stop them from taking over all of Erflia. So I implore the empires on the west that if they are pulling too many forces out of the west to take the opportunity to take some of the free cities that will be left open.

[Book]It is time to be true. I must apologize for this deception, Erflia.

Voyera sees many things, and we have to make judgments about who we believe and who we support, much like any other power.

This is what the Mogul has seen. Nothing. Nobody has spoken a word about military buildup or plans to conquer. Nothing at all, until you strike and seize your targets. The Grand Duchy of the Fae and the empire of Savage have shown no justification for their decision to turn against us; Wonderland is the unwitting scapegoat, chosen because they did not choose to be weak.

How can we accuse each other of building up massive armies when that is exactly what we are doing ourselves? Wonderland, Savage, and the Grand Duchy clearly have no interest in pacifism. None are blameless, but I cannot help but judge those who strike without at least attempting to dissuade others. This is why, Lord Ronald and Duchess Maurelle, Voyera is not your friend. Maurelle, you actually took Wonderland territory, and have paid for it. Ronald, you built a vast army for the purpose of crushing Wonderland, without once voicing your concerns about Wonderland's own choices. Your army is gone. Tell me: do you still wish to conquer the West? Because Voyera isn't finished. Send a representative to 46.23, and we will mourn our losses. Our errors. And justice will be determined.[/Book]

[Book]If you do not wish to hear of justice, then perhaps pragmatism may be a better argument.

You and the Fae have panicked over a supposed military buildup. And yet somehow, you've all been building powerful armies. Why? For protection. Erflia needs to be as strong as it can be, and Wonderland is no exception to that rule. Your phantom conquest could easily have been executed by your own army. In fact, I would argue that it is you who have a problem with a free and peaceful Erflia. Not only did you build an army paralleling the strength of Wonderland's, but you concentrated it in one hex with the intent to conquer a side.

I am completely serious and honest when I say that Voyera is still interested in peace. Any side which wishes to negotiate terms for peace is welcome to request a rendezvous hex or simply address me. I am hesitant to reveal too many details, however, so I would prefer private communication. We can be contacted through Thinkamancy, the Moppits, or Wonderland, in addition to the Book, if you are afraid to be seen making such overtures.[/Book]

[Book]Then I must assume you are being willfully ignorant. The Winterview Alliance gave you the reason that this Grand Alliance of yours cannot happen. Voyera would approve of a unified council of representatives, to resolve issues like your fear of conquest. This council could be assembled in a city, like Fraggle Stone, or perhaps in a neutral hex in the ocean to the north. This time, perhaps Savage would like to participate. Voyera would gladly provide any potential representatives transport to an agreed upon meeting site. To avoid tragedies like Overlord Henderson's, this meeting site should not be the site of a Ruler.[/Book]

And how, exactly, do you presume to know Wonderland's intentions, Ronald? Do you have a Thinkamancer on staff? Or are you so paranoid that the slightest rejection is a sign of ill will in your mind? Our reasons were always legitimate, they were simply practical matters. But if accuse us of holding ulterior motives, then we have no choice but to confess. We, quite simply, did not trust you. During our very first parley, you threatened repeatedly to make war on us if we did not submit to your territorial demands. You turned on Underempire with blinding speed, not for their crimes, but out of greed. And finally, you wiped out Semaphore, unprovoked. You are warlike, and your side is brutal. And we had no interest in sharing our vision for two turns, only to have you break alliance once you were satisfied you could conquer us. At least not until we were ready to hold you if you betrayed us. By the titans, it was you who encouraged us to attack the Fae. We objected! That much is clear, because if we HAD been plotting to destroy the Fae, we would have had much more than 8 Reigndeer in Cryophoenix. Let us ultimately face it. We both accuse each other of being warmongers. But only one of us has shown this to be true.

In any case, our mistrust of you has been validated. Even if you went into this with the best of intentions, you are the aggressor in this war. Your purported desire for alliance means nothing when you end our friendly relationship at the drop of a hat. And there is nothing to forgive us for, save the destruction of the army you chose to put in harm's way.

But we are not a vengeful side, and we will accept a status quo ante bellum. Let us make peace and forgive. If you truly care about this continent, I urge you to take us up on that offer. Sign a peace, retreat to lick your wounds. If you are serious about alliance, then let us take this as a chance to start anew.

And if you are not, then at least have the pride to admit the true nature of this war. An opportunistic land-grab, born out of avarice.

[book] Despite my father's protests against violence he still built up forces, but they remained always within our cities unless they were capturing resources for our side. As it stands the Moppits have one city, because we are not a military power. But we are diplomatic,a nd we urge that all sides pause to consider if all this conflict even matters. How long until one of the Great Empires sweeps back across this strip of land and all our struggles will be for naught? We weaken ourselves by throwing our forces at each other, only so the meat is more tender and easier to take once one of the Great Empires gets hungry for conflict with their neighbor and devours us because we're in the way.

Unite, or we will all meet the Titans. I will say no more of this. Perhaps my last few turns can be spent enjoying life instead of bathing in violence.

[Book]This is the Mogul. I am unimpressed with your peace terms, as they involve immediately surrendering a city that you have no claim to. Your first request involves leaving Amundsen completely defenseless. Your proposed demilitarized zone does not prohibit your army from preparing to strike Wonderland.

I am not feeling the honesty in your proposal. Please propose a cease fire that won't set Wonderland up for a crushing defeat.[/Book]
