I haven't read the thread. So if this has been discussed before, I apologize.

The mannikin needn't have spoken. Unless it was intended to provoke some action from Jillian. And, even given this provocation, the first step to take would be to distrust anything about Diecast. So, eating the food from Diecast's larder was more than just foolish, it was so stupid that there is no reasonable explanation for this lapse in judgement. If the mannikin hadn't spoken, there could be some excuse. Lulled into complacency, with the natural flush of both an easy city capture and some good sex to calm their suspicions and waste their time, this could be excused. Once the mannikin spoke, however, eating or drinking anything from Diecast was just idiocy.

Do no Warlords have the magical knowledge to understand that poisons can be left behind? Is this a secret only known to the Hippymancers? That seems a frail logic to depend on for a trap, that your enemy doesn't know what your clearly obvious capabilities are...

Unless one were too freaked out to think clearly (which Jillian definitely was). All in all though, if the mannikin hadn't waited for such a perfect moment to speak, it probably would have been counter-productive.
