Parson proved that you can take corpses into the magic kingdom. That gave me an idea for a possible somewhat morbid Erfworld industry: corpse trading.

Here's how it would work. Sides without a croakamancer, who have no use for corpses, would bring them to their portal and push them through.

Free croakamcers in MK would collect the corpses and take them through the portals of sides that hired them, to supplement their army with uncroaked units.

The croakamancer would animate the bodies, collect their payment, and return to MK. Then they'd visit the portal that provided the bodies to give them a share of the money.

It might not be worth the effort for weaker units, or uncroaked that are poorly animated, but if your side kills something like a warlord, and a master croakamncer can restore it to near living power for several turns, that could be worth a lot of money if you found the right buyer.

It would be worth more to GK. But yes, that may have been a former way to do business with croakamancers. It seems annoying to manage and probably a niche market though.

Well, croaked units that don't leave the hex they were croaked in by the end of the Turn depop, so that seems like a pretty big obstacle. And, croaked units start their decay each turn if they don't get a croakamancer's love, so there's a limited value to the croaked that take a while to get through the Portal. And, you'd have to devote units to move the units to your capital. And, you'd either have to garrison a caster at the capital or permit the croakamancer to enter your portal to perform the transaction. Then the buying side would have a limited time in which to use the uncroaked units before they rotted too much to have value.

It's hard to imagine the value of the rotting corpses would be greater than the cost of selling them for any but the most desperate sides (those losing units in or near their capital selling to sides that desperately need units immediately.)
