Faq's new shape seems like a really savvy choice, given that its strength is in the air and that it's unlikely to face siege units thanks to its locale.

But... the description is bothering me. It's almost as if it's a reference to something.

Quote:
It was circular, sharp, and shining.

The outer "walls" were useless against siege, even worse than Transylvito's. They consisted of a ring of stone teeth with a reflective coating of tin, inward-curving towers that terminated in spoon-like roosts for gwiffons and megalogwiffs. There was no gate. Vinny simply flew between these pillars and entered the city. A horn somewhere announced him as an arriving allied unit.

The garrison was a set of six more teeth, much taller, fortified with solid walls that joined them like webbing. Three of these walls had gated archways, adorned with Gothic patterns in wrought iron and stone. Vinny topped the walls, and veered skyward.

At the center of the garrison rose a tower constructed with all the ferocity of Jillian's imagination. It was shaped something like a white marble palm tree. The trunk was a twist of six massive columns, tapering slightly as they reached straight upward. The top of the tower was a miniature fortress, a bristle of glass and hard spikes, with ledges and platforms where many dozens of flyers could land, or hundreds of defenders could lurk.

It reminds me of something, I think. Thus far, I've only come up with the Ivory Tower as seen in the movie The Neverending Story.
The entire "tower":

Any thoughts?

The word "tin" is sometimes used as a synonym for "metallic". "Tin foil" is usually aluminum foil and "tin cans" are usually steel cans. A digital camera photo of many metals will look more like the pure element tin when displayed on a computer screen. The stone pillars will probably be cut blocks rather than natural looking rock formation. Drystone is covered in moss because green animations on a computer screen look a bit like moss, earth moss grows in clumps that look a bit pixelated.

Google came up with this "Inward curving teeth":
    http://www.geocities.com/lancelhall/fossils/fish/jaw2b.jpg

A bit more searching various types of teeth came up with a few possibilities. You have to rotate them so that it makes sense. The gwiffon roosts look like a tooth from the side and like a spoon from above. These are pictures of just teeth:

The fangs of a puff might fit the description well:

The python skull shows a more likely pattern:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Python_skull.JPG

It you had viper fangs lined up like they pythons it would make a good side profile. The venom canal could be included so that someone could walk up the tower and visit the gwiffon. The Gwiffons would eat, sleep, and play in a ready combat formation. WWII dive bombers lined up the same way.

Palm trees have a variety of bark textures. This one would be great for a defensive tower:

If each piece of bark was about the size of an apartment balcony infantry could throw rocks or better projectiles around the sides of the wall.

The "palm branches" form an umbrella over a space where flying units can gain altitude. In earth aerial combat pilots trade altitude for speed. Taking the time to regain altitude leaves the aircraft/mount vulnerable. The palm frond structure would be particularly lethal if there is a maximum height a unit can reach. Parson calculated a one in 5400 chance of pegging Stanley in the head with a brick. 540 infantry each with a 5 gallon bucked of 1/2 pound bricks gets the job done. shattering a 5 pounds of glass or a hard spike would send an even more lethal shower. The frond infantry could attack the ground or attack the stacks of air units.

I had a fair idea of how to interpret the description; I'm wondering if anyone read the description, though, and thought "wait, this sounds a lot like X."

Ya know, I really had to use some imagination to try to picture that place. He used the word "gothic" to describe part of the structure so I can only imagine that it's gaudy and useless.

But yeah, a bunch of spikes surrounding a fortress that looks like a palm tree and lots of places for gwiffons to land (Jill does love her gwiffons). I'm presently picturing a big bromiliad with peeps sitting on the leaves. Of course bromiliads have outword cuving spikes, they should curve more inward and be more toothlike like an aloe plant... Ok that plant analogy was terrible, I need to go to bed lol.
